Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) are endemic in Algeria. The alarming recrudescence of the disease in this country since the end of nineties has for direct consequence a strong demand for laboratory diagnosis of this affection. From the beginning of 1998 to the end of 2007, samples from 386 patients with a biologically confirmed diagnosis of CL were collected over a 9-year period at the laboratory of parasitology- mycology in the Mustapha University Hospital center in Algiers. The aim of this work was to specify the epidemiological and diagnostical characteristics of CL through the cases reported. The majority of our patients lived in the North of the country or had stayed in endemic areas. The highest incidence was observed in autumn and at the beginning of winter. In our serie, CL mainly affected children of less than 5 years. The face constituted the most involved anatomic region, members coming in second position. By comparing the present cases with those reported in the past, it was obseved a similarity in the epidemiological characteristics.
