We report on a modified skin incision for open surgical repair of tendo calcaneus following spontaneous rupture. The incision has been used in 25 patients and the results presented. The outcome has been very encouraging. This skin incision provides a safe approach to the site of tendon rupture and repair. We suggest that this incision has a preventative role in avoiding potential wound complications, which contribute to the morbidity and risks of the procedure. The incision also significantly improves the quality of the resultant scar.
