A new alkaloid, named oblonginine, has been isolated from the roots of Veratrum oblongum, along with five known alkaloids. It was determined to be (22R,25S)-22,26-epiminocholest-5-en-3β-ol [(22R)-22, N-dihydroverazine] on the basis of spectroscopic evidence and was shown to be identical with a compound obtained by solanidine degradation.
