Both the Ti Kβ 5 and Ti Lα X-ray emissionspectra of metallic titanium and its hydrides TiH 1 . 8 8 , TiH 2 . 2 7 , and TiH 2 . 5 2 have been investigated. In the above spectra the differences of energy distributions of Ti p-like and Ti d-like valence states of the hydrides have been observed. Theobserved peculiarities of interatomic interactions have been explained taking into account that, inthe hydrides TiH x >2, hydrogen atoms begin to occupy octahedral positions inaddition to tetrahedral ones. The X-ray Ti K absorption spectra of Ti m e t , TiO 2 and the hydrides mentioned above have also been studied. Results of investigations of theTi K absorption spectra indicate that, in the titanium hydrides studied, a charge transfer occursfrom Ti to H atoms.
