This study found that methanol production from biomass (i.e. poplar waste and sawdust), with natural gas as a co-feedstock eased the requirements for a consistent composition of biomass feedstock, ensured completeness of overall conversion, increased thermal efficiency, reduced the need for shift conversion of CO, and reduced the requirement for acid gas removal. The Hynol process is described.
