Various biomolecules have been patterned on anti-fouling substrates (Polyethylene glycol, PEG, plasma polymerized) by microcontact printing. Photolithography and reactive ion etching have been used to fabricate the microstructured silicon moulds needed for the production of stamps. Replicas of the microsized features were created in polydimethyl siloxane. The elastomeric stamps were used for micropatterning different biomolecules on PEG. Characterisation by fluorescence microscopy, ToF-SIMS and Ellipsometry showed well-defined stable patterns. Incubation of the samples with solutions of fibroblasts and neural stem cells highlighted how the cells clearly adhered and proliferate in the regions covered with the biomolecules.
