The SSRI citalopram has proved to have pharmacokinetic advantages and fewer side effects compared to TCA and other SSRIs. Despite its potent and highly selective action on 5-HT receptors, there are some recent evidences that citalopram produces weight gain in some cases. We present the results of an in-progress study conducted on 8 anorectic outpatients (DSM IV) treated with citalopram (20-40 mg/day). SCL 90-R scale, EDI-2 scale, Hamilton depression rating scale and body weight were assessed weekly during 2 months after the beginning of the treatment.
