The possibility of chemical modification of thin silver films (TSF) by means of treatment by different solvents or 1-propanethiol with the object of varying the physical and chemical properties for receiving SERS-active substrata, which are optimized for specific compounds or methods was studied. The imidazole, pyrene, 3'-metoxy-3,3-dimethyl-1-styrylphthalylium (MSPh) and 3',3'-dimethylphthalan-1'-spiro-2[2H-1-benzopyran] (PhSBP) were used as test-systems for definition of Raman enhancing properties. It was found that such substrata were worth using with non-polar molecular systems.
