A new Wells-Dawson polyoxometalate-based compound, H[Cu(L) 2 (P 2 W 18 O 62 ) 0.5 ]·~3H 2 O (1) (L=N,N′-bis(3-pyridinecarboxamide)-1,6- hexane), has been hydrothermally synthesized. Compound 1 is a 2D network based on [P 2 W 18 O 62 ] 6− polyanion and nonparallel 1D Cu(L) 2 polymer chain constructed from two types of bi-nuclear circles alternately arraying with the dihedral angle of 34.75°. Compound 1 represents the first example of 2D Wells-Dawson POM-based compound constructed from the flexible bis-pyridyl-bis-amide ligand. Moreover, the electrochemical behavior, luminescent property and photocatalytic activity of 1 have been investigated.
