Global relocation is the process of moving one or more business functions to a location outside the home country. It has been suggested that firms can achieve a competitive advantage through global relocation. However not all such moves provide a sustainable competitive advantage. In this study we examine the global relocation activities of a sample of Dutch firms. Based on the experiences of these firms we develop a six step process that should help firms avoid global relocation obstacles and obtain a sustainable competitive advantage.
