Hydrological results from the oceanographic survey Ictio. Alboran 0793 are presented in this paper. Different types of water masses, their distribution and circulation, inferred from geostrophic calculations, are also discussed. The data highlight two well-known anticy-clonic gyres of the Alboran Sea, the western gyre well developed and the eastern one with smaller size and lower intensity. Analysis of dissolved oxygen and nitrates distribution support the results obtained from hydrological data. Satellite images taken during the survey period show a surface thermal structure in agreement with the region's dynamic topography. However, it is important to note that these images also show a high temporal variability, so the hydrological results should be viewed with a certain amount of caution.
