Results of surveys presented in this paper show that Poland's accession to the EU, participation in the European Single Market and the support measures for agriculture have had a crucial impact on the improvement of economic situation in both the agricultural sector and single farms. Simultaneously, model analysis proves that despite of CAP support the vast majority of Polish farms is not, and also wont be in the future, able to provide parity level of farm household incomes and means for farm development. The main reason for this situation is the small scale of production which results from insufficient land resources in those farms. Results of surveys allow to state that from the point of view of balanced economic and social situation in Polish rural areas, the meaning of small and medium farms in Polish agriculture is too big. This lack of balance might cause some difficulties in participation of Polish agriculture in EMA. In order to better match Polish farms to European agriculture one still needs some essential structural changes, also in the land structure of farms.
