The Lusatian necropolis in Brzezie, the district of Pleszew, is the largest thoroughly investigated cemetery in that part of Wielkopolska. 366 analysed burials dated to the Late Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age makes the cemetery one of the most important sites of the Lusatian culture in the Prosna River basin. The Pleszew settlement concentration held a significant position in the development of the Lusatian communities as a contact zone of various groups from western Wielkopolska (zachodniowielkopolska group), Górny Śląsk-Małopolska (górnośląsko-małopolska group) and central Poland (środkowopolska group). The paper presents the attempt to characterise cultural processes reflected mostly in the coexistence of vessel forms typical for adjacent provinces, as well as selected burial rites. A peripheral character of the discussed area is also reflected in the concentration of imported deposits of metal items.
