This text aims to show the links between the logic of capital and the process of neocolonialism in South America. The origins of the creation of the myths and models that determine peripheral societies “way to do and act” go back to the 16th century. Progress and development ideas legitimized the political, cultural, economical and sometimes even military domination of one colonial power over another. In this respect, in order to throw light on the way some discursive objects being part of modern narrative are involved in society’s imaginary, our task is to analyze the part played by the mall. The shopping centre has not only turned into the “Cathedral of brands” or the “Mecca of merchandises” but also into a place where you can observe all the contradictions of late capitalism.
