Celem artykułu jest określenie, jak zmienia się poziom wynagrodzeń brutto i kosztów pracy oraz proporcje między nimi w sektorach publicznym i prywatnym w Polsce. Postawiono pytanie badawcze, czy wzrost konkurencji międzynarodowej spowodował, że wynagrodzenia i koszty pracy rosną szybciej w sektorze prywatnym (wystawionym na konkurencję) niż w publicznym. Poza ujęciem sektorów własności ogółem analizie poddano 10 sekcji działalności gospodarczej o najwyższym zatrudnieniu. W artykule wykorzystano dane publikowane przez Główny Urząd Statystyczny w Rocznikach Statystycznych Pracy dla lat 2008 i 2016. Analiza oparta jest głównie na porównaniach zmian procentowych wynagrodzeń i kosztów pracy. Wyniki przemawiają za pozytywną odpowiedzią na postawione pytanie, przy czym wciąż wyższy jest poziom wynagrodzeń i kosztów pracy w sektorze publicznym niż prywatnym.
