Cel: Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie koncepcji „otwartej innowacyjności” w kontekście obecnej pozycji innowacyjnej Polski, a także omówienie uwarunkowań powstania innowacyjnego ekosystemu wiedzy w naszym kraju, szczególnie zaś — znaczenia zaufania i współpracy w tym procesie.Metodologia: Przyjęto założenie, że we współczesnych modelach innowacyjności coraz większe znaczenie mają czynniki pozaekonomiczne, a zwłaszcza czynniki społeczne. Wynika to z faktu, że rozwój technologii teleinformatycznych pozwala na prowadzenie prac naukowo-badawczych w otwartych środowiskach sieciowych. Z jednej strony skutkuje to nowymi zagrożeniami, związanymi m.in. z ochroną własności intelektualnej, z drugiej zaś stanowi szansę włączenia w procesy innowacyjne wielu nowych podmiotów.Rezultaty: Możliwość wykorzystania sieci w procesach innowacyjnych dostrzegły zarówno koncerny transnarodowe, jak i mniejsze firmy, których innowacyjność bazuje często na „mądrości tłumu”. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych analiz należy podkreślić, że w ciągu ostatnich dwóch dekad innowacyjność polskiej gospodarki nie zwiększyła się znacząco, a ze względu na bieżącą sytuację w gospodarce światowej należy liczyć się z tym, że niedługo wyczerpią się nasze przewagi konkurencyjne wynikające z niższych kosztów pracy.Oryginalność: Biorąc pod uwagę sukcesy we wdrażaniu modelu „otwartej innowacyjności” w krajach postindustrialnych, można stwierdzić, że powstanie sieciowego środowiska wiedzy w Polsce nie będzie możliwe bez gruntownych zmian systemowych, zwłaszcza w sferze edukacji i relacji państwo–obywatel. Zaufanie i współpracę należy uznać za główne czynniki sprzyjające budowaniu innowacyjnej gospodarki bazującej na technologiach ICT.
