Introduction: Ayurvedic cosmetics are the products which, as a rule, should not contain any chemicals, synthetic fragrances or mineral oils and are not tested on animals. The most important principle of ayurveda is the elimination of all artifcial compounds, which could not be eaten, as the compounds for the skin care products, and that is why this type of cosmetics is obtained on the basis of natural components such as herbs, essences, fowers, minerals, spices and fruit which evoke a synergistic efect. The aim of the study is to introduce the composition and efects of the main ingredients of ayurvedic anti-aging cream compared with a drugstore product of a similar efect on the skin.Material and methods: The composition and the efect of the ayurvedic and drugstore anti-aging creams were compared and collated according to the producer’s labels on the products. The substances included in these creams were grouped because of their function in the product. A group of active substances, preservatives, synthetic dyes, fragrances, and other substances such as emulsifers, emollients, humectants softeners, chelating agents and sunscreens were separated. The compositions of the creams were compared taking into account the overall contribution of individual groups of components in the fnal product. At the same time the information on the efects of their action was also presented. Results: The substances, present in the drugstore cream, of an active and regenerating efect for the skin, constitute only 4 ingredients per 42 of the total constituent components. The same amount was related to the chemical preservatives (4). In addition, there were synthetic fragrances (6) and chemical dyes (2) identifed. Other components accounted for 27 components of the cream. However, in the composition of an ayurvedic formula, there were 11 natural components of a multi-action found, 1 food preservative, and 6 other ingredients. Conclusions: The ayurvedic cream consists mostly of natural ingredients with a broad spectrum of action. They support biological regeneration of the skin, rebuild the lipid barrier of the epidermis, and some of them show also antimicrobial activity. However, the predominant components of the drugstore cream are synthetic with a regenerative activity. Moreover, an ayurvedic cream does not contain any synthetic fragrances and dyes, which are often used in drugstore creams. The preserva-tives used in ayurvedic creams are the same as mainly used in the production of food (potassium sorbate), while conventional drugstore creams include among others para-hydroxybenzoic acid derivatives.
