In the Polish legislation fire hazards arising from smouldering process is skipped. Certainly this phenomenon should be greater attention, because fires preceded by smouldering are among the most treacherous and dangerous consequences. When the material is as a whole or in a part from organic ingredients and is dry, is not dense but contains holes with air or empty spacesin it, which, on the one hand, cause the extended surface and, on the other hand, hinder the outflow of heat, or affects the appropriate heat source (specific power), in certain cases, it may be the smouldering process. In the year 2016 the PN-EN 16733 [6] standard was published. There are specified rules for testing and evaluation of the susceptibility to continuous smouldering. In this article there are presented the results of smouldering test for five types of insulation materials on the basis of wood and cellulose.
