Luminescence is widely used in modern techniques of ionizing radiation dosimetry and in dating of geological materials and dating objects in archeology. For this purpose, the most frequently used are thermoluminescence (TL) and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL). In all these applications, the measurement sensitivity is extremely important. For this reason, the standard measurement technique is the method of measuring the intensity of emitted light by a photomultiplier operating in the photon counting mode. This measurement method provides a very good signal-tonoise ratio but does not give any information about the spectral distribution of the emission. Standard spectral measurements, using even the most advanced multichannel cooled CCD detectors, are only possible for much stronger light, exceeding several orders of magnitude the photomultiplier detection threshold. This article discusses a new method of spectral measurement that allows recording of much lower emissions.
