This research work was focused on the application of powder metallurgy technology for producing high quality product from Ti10V2Fe3Al alloy. For the purpose of the investigations hot compaction and hot close-die forging processes were used. As an initial material a mixture of elemental powders of titanium, vanadium, iron and aluminum was applied. The application of the mixture of elemental powders as initial material leads to reduction of production costs as compared to the manufacturing the parts from prealloyed powders. The process of the hot compaction of Ti10V2Fe3Al was realised at the temperature of 1200 °C under pressure of 25 MPa at argon atmosphere. The time of the sintering was 3 hours. As the result of hot densification under precisely controlled conditions, fully densified semi-products were obtained. The description of thermo-mechanical behavior of the investigated material for numerical simulation was determined during compression tests on Gleeble simulator performed on solid Ti10V2Fe3Al alloy samples having the same chemical composition as the investigated P/M alloy. Numerical modeling of forging of the selected forging was performed using FEM (Finite Element Method) QForm 2D/3D commercial software. Various options of heating the billet as well as various mechanical conditions of forging process were applied, however the range of parameters was strictly in accordance with possibilities of the industry. Basing on the results of the numerical analysis, appropriate thermo-mechanical conditions of hot forging of gear wheel were determined. Designed parameters of forging technology were verified by the trials performed at industrial conditions. Cylindrical specimens with a height of 30 mm and a diameter of 70 mm, made of Ti10V2Fe3Al alloy powder compacts, were used as a billet for forging. The specimens were heated up to 1000 °C for 15 minutes in a gas furnace, then cooled down to 900°C and forged in two stages. Chosen properties of the forgings were specified, the quality of the product were estimated by microstructure observations conducted at several chosen areas of the forging. It was found, that hot forging of compacted mixture of elemental powders resulted in obtaining defect-free Ti10V2Fe3Al gear wheel.
