Decyzją Parlamentu Europejskiego i Rady Unii Europejskiej nr 940/2011/UE z dnia 14 września 2011 roku, rok 2012 ogłoszono „Europejskim Rokiem Aktywności Osób Starszych i Solidarności Międzypokoleniowej”. Jego celem jest zwrócenie uwagi opinii publicznej m.in. na to, jakie warunki należy stworzyć, aby sprzyjać aktywności osób starszych. Zapewnienie seniorom możliwości bezpiecznego i swobodnego poruszania się powinno należeć do ważnych zadań, zarówno administracji rządowej, jak i samorządowej. Mobilność jest bowiem podstawowym warunkiem niezależności starszych osób i zapobiega ich wykluczeniu społecznemu. W artykule przedstawiono problemy, z jakimi muszą zmierzyć się osoby starsze w ruchu drogowym oraz przykłady działań i dobrych praktyk realizowanych w Polsce i w innych krajach Unii Europejskiej, służących poprawie mobilności seniorów.
With the decision of the European Parliament and the European Union Council No. 940/2011/EU of 14 September 2011, the year 2012 was proclaimed as the "European Year for the Activity of the Elderly and Intergenerational Solidarity". Its aim is to draw public attention to, among the others the problem of what conditions should be created to promote activity of the aged. Ensuring for the seniors possibility of the safe and free mobility should be the important tasks, both for the government as well as local government administration. For the mobility is a fundamental condition of the independence of the older people and prevents their social exclusion. This paper presents the problems that are faced by the elderly in the road traffic and examples of actions and good practices implemented in Poland and other countries of the European Union, to improve the mobility of seniors.
