Przypadek taki zachodził podczas obu utleniających stopni bielenia w warunkach alkalicznych, zwłaszcza w wysokostężeniowym stopniu tlenowy, a także w pewnym stopniu podczas alkalicznej ekstrakcji wzmocnionej tlenem i nadtlenkiem wodoru.
Applicability of zero-span tensile strength test in localization of points of mechanical or chemical degradation of fibers in bleached kraft softwood pulp production line was studied. First of all various formulas describing impact of individual fiber strength on main paper strength indexes were surveyed and discussed in terms of their usefulness in predicting their practical consequences in the process monitoring system. As the result of this survey an Elmendorf tear test could be recommended as most sensitive measure of fiber strength in the case when an apparatus for zero-span test is not available. Both procedures of zero-span test for paper in dry and rewetted state, as well as correction for changes of coarseness were studied. We have found a percentage weakening of fibers as a result of their rewetting as the most sensitive indicator of their degradation, as was suggested earlier by Gurnagul and Page. This was a case in both oxidative treatments in alkali conditions, especially in high consistency oxygen bleaching stage and to some extend also in alkali extraction stage reinforced with oxygen and hydrogen peroxide. On the other hand some fiber strength recovery effect of acidic stages of bleaching (D) was observed, what was explained by some shrinkage and consolidation of fiber wall. The monitoring of fiber strength along whole production lint is strongly recommended, as an early-warning system for paper mill personnel.
