Powodują one zwilżanie ziaren cementu, nadają własności hydrofilowe, działają dyspergująco i otulają wodą ziarna spoiwa.
Polycarboxylate admixtures are one of the new generation groups of thinning agents. They bring about wetting of cement grains and hydrophilic behaviour, exert a dispersing action and coat the binder grains with water. They can cause an increase as high as 30% in the strength of fine aggregate concrete, with unchanged proportion and strength of cement. They can be used in amounts as low as 0.3%, giving a reduction of the content of mixing water in the mix even by 40%. Carried out investigation allowed to state the differentiation of the effect of various admixtures upon the strength. The effectiveness of their action depends on the amount of cement in the mix. The type of thinning agents influences both the dynamics and the character of the changes and this influence is the more significant the higher is the content of cement and the higher is the class of the binder.
