The latest hygienic regulation in Poland regarding the quality of potable water recommends that, whenever the presence of bacteria of the species Clostridium perfringens has been detected in the water, the water supplier should find out whether or not there are any hazards to humans arising from the presence of pathogenic microorganisms, such as Cryptosporidium. All national producers of consumption water, who draw surface water or mixed water, shall test if raw water is not polluted with pathogenic parasites and evaluate the efficiency of applied treatment methods. The objective of full-scale study was to determine the efficiency of water treatment method at five water treatment plants. On the basis of gained results of tests, a method of evaluation the hazard for people lives caused by Cryptosporidium oocysts based on hazard factors analysis was developed.
