O ile w podziemnych wyrobiskach główne źródło zagrożenia promieniowaniem jonizującym stanowią krótkożyciowe produkty rozpadu radonu, o tyle w odniesieniu do terenów powierzchniowych, zlokalizowanych wokół kopalń, zagrożenie to stanowią głównie wody dołowe o podwyższonej zawartości radu i w mniejszym zakresie - stałe odpady kopalniane.
The effects of a coal extraction in conditions of radiation hazard are often observed on the ground. In underground excavations the main source of ionizing radiation risk are short-lived decay products of radon, while on the surface of the earth in the areas located around coal mines - mine waters with high radium content (to a lesser extent, also solid mine wastes). The concentration of radium in water on the surface of the ground fluctuates because of climatic conditions connected with natural level of waters (periods of summer and spring-autumn-winter). The phenomenon of periodic changes of the value CR3W serve as start to present the possible use of time series model (harmonic analysis) to study the phenomena repeated over time.
