The present work describes the influence of the sample surface, in particular the sample geometry and the surface roughness on the PLC effect. The plastic deformation instability was described using a quantitative analysis of the serrations observed on the tensile or compression stress-strain curves. The correlation between the characteristics of the serration and the coefficient Sv (ratio of the surface to the volume) was analysed using the data for Al-Mg alloy. The PLC effect in the samples with different surface treatment (polished and unpolished) was also investigated. The materials used in this study were ternary and industrial Al-Li alloys. The results indicate that the flow stresses higher in the unpolished samples as are well as the amplitude of serrations. The influence of the intermetallics coating (Ni-Al) on the PLC effect in Inconel 600 was examined. The coating decreases the strength of the nickel alloy and decreases the intensity of the PLC effect.
Materiałem użytym do badań były modelowy i przemysłowy stopy Al-Li.
