The nanocrystalline Mg2-xMnxNi (x = 0, 0.25, 0.5) hydrogen storage alloys have been synthesized by mechanical alloying followed by annealing (723 K/0.5 h). The structure of these materials has been examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Thermodynamic and electrochemical properties have also been investigated. The hydrogen content of synthesized alloys is decreased compared to Mn-free Mg2Ni material. On the other hand, substituted nanocrystalline Mg-based alloys show substantially enhanced discharge capacity, at room temperature. Furthermore, the effect of the nickel and graphite coating on the structure of the alloys and the electrodes characteristics were investigated as well. In nanocrystalline Mg1.5Mn0.5Ni alloy mechanical coating with nickel effectively reduced the degradation rate of the studied electrode materials.
Nanokrystaliczne stopy typu Mg2-xMnxNi (x = 0, 0.25, 0.5) otrzymano metodą mechanicznej syntezy oraz obróbką cieplną (723 K/0.5 h). Właściwości strukturalne stopów badano metodą rentgenowską (XRD), elektronową mikroskopią skaningową (SEM) i mikroskopią sił atomowych (AFM).
