Uncontrolled open burning processes cause an increased emission of different toxic organic compounds. This work has confirmed that significant amounts of emitted substances are represented by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and carbonyl compounds. It describes application of HPLC technique to the analysis of these compounds in air samples collected during several types of uncontrolled combustion processes carried out in an open air and in a hospital waste incinerator. To satisfy the needs of this study, combustion processes were performed without control of temperature and gas purification, and in most cases without segregation of combusted materials. The collected samples were subsequently prepared for the chromatographic analysis by extraction and purification, and analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively by HPLC using two detectors: fluorescent detector for PAHs' and diode array detector for carbonyl compounds. The obtained concentration levels of : particular carbonyl compounds ranged from 3.26 to 251.33 μg m3, depending on the combusted materials and conditions. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were detected in -the range of 3.30-816.03 ng m-3
Zebrane próbki przygotowywano do analizy chromatograficznej poprzez proces ekstrakcji i oczyszczania,
