Omówiono relację pomiędzy wodorem, węglem a sektorem transportu. Zastosowanie wodoru jako napędu samochodów wymaga uprzednio pokonania kilku barier technologicznych, dotyczących m.in., zasilania samochodów w wodór.
Hydrogen and coal competition as suppliers of heat or electric non-polluting energies can be described as follows. Hydrogen can be obtained from coal by large scale technologies. However, they are associated with CO2generation. Therefore, the technologies have to be linked with CO2capture/sequestration. On the other hand, “clean” heat and electric energies can be directly obtained from coal on the condition that the CO2capture/sequestration is also included. Coal derived energy seems to be preferable. Another option for hydrogen production is electrolysis of water; the process consumes large amount of electric energy (and water - as well). Of course, “clean” electric energy should be used .In the case that coal derived clean electricity has to be used for electrolysis, it seems there is no sense of producing an electrolysis-derived hydrogen. Relationship between coal, hydrogen and transportation sector. A number of technological barriers occur on the way of hydrogen use in transportation sector. Hybrid or electrical vehicles seem to be a better choice.
