The behavior of the Mg-AZ31 (Mg based) alloy containing 3.1 wt. % Al and 1.3 wt. % Zn based on structure observations during heavy deformation by the Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP) at room and elevated temperatures has been investigated. Heavy deformation of metals opens new possibilities to control the structure and texture in order to obtain new mechanical properties. The refinement of microstructure together with the increase of strength and ductility of material are the most desired effects of such a technique. Such requirements can be realized by the use of the ECAP technique often applied to deform metals of cubic and hexagonal lattices. In contrast to materials of low deformability at room temperature such as the Mg-AZ31 alloy, extrusion with the ECAP technique is not effective because usually leads to its failure. In the presented work, the results of the attempt to moderate the Mg-AZ31 alloy destruction in the ECAP processing through the use of Al-shield protection have been presented. The behavior of the Mg-based alloy in the ECAP process at room and elevated temperatures was examined with texture measurements and structure observations.
Al i 1,3% mas. Zn) podczas intensywnego odkształcenia w procesie Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP) w temperaturze pokojowej i podwyższonej. Intensywne odkształcenie metali stwarza nowe możliwości sterowania strukturą i teksturą krystalograficzną w aspekcie poprawy właściwości materiału, przede wszystkim mechanicznych. Najważniejsze pożądane efekty intensywnego odkształcenia to silne rozdrobnienie mikrostruktury z równoczesnym wzrostem wytrzymałości i ciągliwości materiału.
