Laboratory experiments were conducted to test the effect of heavy metal ions on mortality, activiły and food preference of sług Arion lusitanicus. Contamination of substratum with heavy metal ions significantly influenced activity and mortality of investigated slug. On substratum containing Cu and Cd ions slugs lived significantly shorter than in the control. Arion lusitanicus preferred uncontaminated food and leaves soaked in Mg2+ jon solution. There is a possibility of using Cu2+ ions in plant protection as a deterrent agent of slugs.
