Pomiar efektywności przedsiębiorstw i przedsięwzięć inwestycyjnych w badaniach naukowych i aplikacyjnych bywa kłopotliwy i obarczony nieporozumieniami oraz problemami z porównywalnością wyników, do czego przyczyniają się pewien nieporządek pojęciowy oraz różnorodność podejść metodologicznych. W przypadku inwestycji w technologie informatyczne duże trudności z internalizacją i kwantyfikacją efektów pośrednich oddziaływania tych technologii na przedsiębiorstwo czynią zadanie pomiaru jeszcze bardziej złożonym. W niniejszym artykule autor dokonał przeglądu sposobów definiowania efektywności, jakie można znaleźć w literaturze z zakresu nauk ekonomicznych i zarządzania, omówił elementy ogólnej problematyki pomiaru efektywności z rozróżnieniem efektywności inwestycji i efektywności organizacji wdrażających te inwestycje oraz przedstawi wybrane zagadnienia pomiaru efektywności technologii informatycznych.
Measuring efficiency of companies and investment ventures as performed in academic and business studies tends to be troublesome and affected with misunderstandings and comparison difficulties. In part these issues has been brought about by divergent approaches to defining the same terms and differences in methodological perspectives on measuring process. In case of information systems investments the task of measuring efficiency is exacerbated by serious difficulties with internalizing and quantifying indirect effects linked to utilizing these technologies in business practice. In light of the above, the paper presents a review of the more common definitions attached to the concept of efficiency and related terms that can be found in economics and management science literature. Also the selected methods employed in measuring efficiency of both companies and investment ventures are discussed. As a final part, an overview of unique issues characterizing estimation of efficiency of information technologies is presented.
