Analysis of an effect of size, rate and temperature of deformation on microstructure development and on an amount of retained austenite in a TRIP steel has been carried out. Particular attention was drawn to deformation effects in a two-phase austenite-ferrite range in reference to the hardening mechanisms. It was proved that deformation in a two-phase range has significant effect on morphology and microstructure composition at room temperature. The analysis was made using axially symmetrical upsetting tests conducted at various temperatures and deformation rates. Cold deformation hardening was determined from hardness measurements. It was found that final deformation in a two-phase range results in a broader range of changes of the mechanical properties of products from the TRIP steel.
