Rolling contact fatigue (pitting) is a phenomenon of great practical significance in many engineering applications involving concentrated contacts. It is one of the dominating forms of wear of components in transmissions like toothed gears and rolling bearings. The authors elaborated a method for investigation of rolling contact fatigue (pitting) of coated elements in point contact. The method is realised with modified four ball testing machine. The modification embraces the replacement of testing specimens. The upper ball is replaced with a cone that could be made of various materials. The method enables to perform investigations aimed at determination of influence of material, modification of surface layer and assessment of lubricant action on pitting. The method exhibits good resolution and is time and cost effective. The method was successfully applied to investigate various types of surface coatings among other single, multilayer and duplex ones.
Metodę zastosowano do porównania powierzchniowej trwałości zmęczeniowej powłok typu duplex.
