Long-term influence of fertilising arable land with pig-farm slurry was studied on pollution of aquatic environment with mineral nitrogen. Works were conducted in 10 sites situated in Dolnośląskie, Opolskie and Lubuskie Provinces. Light soils occurred in 4 of them and compact soils in 6. The load of nitrogen from applied slurry ranged from 155 to 365 kg·ha-1·year-1. A clear dependence of N-NO3concentration in ground and drainage waters on soil compactness and on nitrogen load supplied with slurry was demonstrated. The doses of nitrogen in slurry applied in light soils close to permissible dose for natural fertilisers (170 kg·ha-1·year-1) resulted in increased average concentrations of N-NO3in these waters and qualified them to non-standard class of water quality. In compact soils, the influence of such dose on the quality of ground and drainage waters was insignificant.
