Pierwsze próby wdrożeniowe zostały podjęte w Odlewni Żeliwa Ciągliwego i Wytwórni Łączników w Zawierciu w 1950 r., kolejne w Odlewni Żeliwa Ciągliwego w Drawskim Młynie, gdzie przestawiono produkcję żeliwa ciągliwego białego na żeliwo ciągliwe czarne (1951 - 1952). Realizowane byty następnie prace badawcze dotyczące procesu i kinetyki grafityzacji cementytu eutektycznego i eutektoidalnego (l i II stadium grafityzacji) z określeniem wpływu grubości ścianki (średnicy próbki dylatometrycznej) na ten proces. Kolejno rozwinięto badania nad udoskonaleniem technologii produkcji żeliwa ciągliwego czarnego przez określenie wpływu składników stopowych (P, Cu, stosunek Mn:S) i żeliwa ciągliwego perlitycznego przez dodatek Mn. Kontynuację tych badań stanowiło określenie wpływu dodatku Al, Cu, Ni, B, Mn, Ti, Mo, Cr, Bi i Sb na proces grafityzacji w l stadium i właściwości mechaniczne (Rm, HB).
The beginnings of the production of malleable iron castings in the territory of Poland (in year 1876) and the first publications in the Polish periodicals (in year 1938) are described. The production of whiteheart malleable iron castings in the thirties of the last century in seven foundries is discussed and the development of this production after the year 1945 in other foundries is also given. The research on practical application of the production technology of blackheart ("American") malleable cast iron, necessary for the development of machine production and country's economy are presented. The first attempts at practical application from the initiative of the Foundry Research Institute were undertaken by Odlewnia Żeliwa Ciągliwego i Wytwórnia Łączników in Zawiercie (Malleable Cast Iron Foundry and Fittings Factory in Zawiercie) in the year 1950, followed by Odlewnia Żeliwa Ciągliwego in Drawski Młyn (Malleable Iron Foundry in Drawski Młyn), where the production of whiteheart malleable cast iron was changed to blackheart malleable cast iron (in the period of 1951-1952). The development the introduced technology obtained through investigations carried on by the Foundry Research Institute and concerning the inoculation of this cast iron with additions of Al, B, FeSi was presented well as the elaboration of methods and statistical control. Next, the research work was undertaken on kinetics of the eutectic and eutectoidal cementite graphitization (I and II stage of graphitization) with determination of the wall thickness influence. The next step covered the development of research on the improvement of blackheart malleable cast iron production technology, owing mainly to the determination of the influence of the alloying constituents, like P, Cu, and Mn:S ratio; the production of malleable pearlitic iron with an addition of Mn was also taken into account. As a continuation of this research, the effect of the additions of Al, Cu, Ni, B, Mn, Ti, Mo, Cr, Bi and Sb on the graphitization process at the first stage as well as on the mechanical properties (Rm and HB) were determined. Next, the practical application activities of the Foundry Research Institute on the improvement of the production of malleable iron castings due to the application of the grade of this cast iron with higher tensile strength and new apparatus and technological processes were described. The final achievement in the scope of this research on malleable cast iron was the elaboration of the malleable iron grade with the highest tensile strength Rm = 370 - 400 MPa and elongation A3= 17 - 24%. The production of malleable iron castings was decreased to a large extent by the production of ductile cast iron.
