W pracy badano kompozyt ceramika-polimer uzyskany metodą infiltracji porowatej ceramiki SiCh elastomerem nitrylomocznikowouretanowym.
The advanced composites with ceramic matrix have potential for application in a variety of high-temperature applications as for energy technology or auto mobile industry. Hovewer, the appliactions of these materials is restricted due to their poor thermal shock and low fracture toughness. One method to overcome these negative aspects of ceramic materials is to incorporate a ductile metallic or polymer phase, which leads to increased toughness. The increase of the fracture toughness results from the interaction between the fracture front and introduced phase. Own works of authors also concern the methods of increase fracture toughness of ceramic-metal and ceramic-polymer composites. In this paper, preliminary studies of ceramics-polymer composites are presented. Composites were obtained via infiltration of porous SiO2 by urea-urethane elastomer. This method cause on a great area the contact between partners and interpenetrating microstructure is formed. Crack propagation in such composites, and their effect on the fracture toughness are reported. Results suggest that cracks are deflected and stopped by elastomer partly due to stress relaxations in elastomer. All these processes influence the fracture toughness of composite.
