Zrozumienie procesów fizykochemicznych zachodzących w roztworach wodnych w połączeniu z odpowiednią kontrolą parametrów termodynamicznych i kinetycznych umożliwia syntezę materiałów ceramicznych o odpowiednich właściwościach. Artykuł podaje cały szereg kombinacji metod hydrotermalnych z innymi popularnymi technikami syntezy materiałów, a także opisuje aktualne zastosowania techniki hydrotermalnej w przemyśle. W kolejnych częściach II i III dyskutowane będą szczegółowo zalety i wady hydrotermalnej syntezy proszków, włókien i cienkich warstw ceramicznych w oparciu o przykłady materiałów takich jak hydroksyapatyt, tytanian-cyrkonian ołowiu, alpha-AI2O3, nanorurki węglowe, BaTiO3, SrTiO3, (Ba,Sr)TiO3 oraz KNbO3.
Hydrothermal synthesis is a technology for crystallizing materials directly from aqueous solutions at elevated temperatures and pressures. The objective of this article is to introduce the field of hydrothermal materials synthesis and show how understanding physico-chemical processes ocurring in aqueous medium in addition to controlling thermodynamic and kinetic variables can be used for engineering hydrothermal crystallization processes. The paper describes hydrothermal synthesis by providing history, process definitions, technological merits and comments on its current implementation in industry. Thermodynamic modeling is described as an engineering tool to predict equilibrium phase assemblages and use it for development of hydrothermal technology for materials synthesis. Hybride technologies of the hydrothermal method are also briefly discussed. In the following Parts II and III, merits of the hydrothermal synthesis of ceramic powders, fibers, and thin films will be discussed in more detail, based upon examples of such materials as hydroxyapatite, lead zirconate titanate, alpha-AI2O3, multiwalled carbon nanotubes, BaTiO3, SrTiO3, (Ba,Sr)TiO3, and KNbO3.
