Water mist fixed extinguishing systems nozzles are becoming more and more commonly used water extinguishing devices in buildings. However, there are doubts as to whether their effectiveness is not lower than that of traditional sprinkler devices. One of the elements of the assessment of the extinguishing efficiency of water mist nozzles is the analysis of the size distribution of the generated droplets. The aim of the work was to investigate the properties of the atomized stream generated by a swirl water mist nozzle. The article discusses the general characteristics of the tested nozzle. The test stand and the measurement method used were presented. The obtained data was compared with the literature data. The achieved results are presented in the form of graphs showing the distribution of mean droplets with a quantitative volume depending on pressure and the distance from the tested nozzle. The results confirmed the extinguishing and cooling properties of hot fire gases of the water stream generated by the nozzle.
