The paper discusses subsequent legal regulations determining the process of education in the fields of study related to automatic control and robotics. These conditions have changed several times over the past twenty years. The most important were legal acts introducing two-level studies and education standards for particular field of study (2006), expanding the autonomy of the university in the creation of study programs with the simultaneous elimination of the ministerial list of fields of study (2011), introduction of Polish Qualifications Framework, in Line with the European Qualifications Framework (2016). The paper discusses also the problem of mass learning in the field of automatic control and robotics, and its impact on the quality of graduates. A series of numerical data illustrating activity of Polish technical universities in education students in this field has been compiled. The aspects of loosening cooperation between Polish universities were discussed, which resulted in significant program discrepancies.
