Every year coal seams are exploited at greater depths, thus excavations need to be driven deeper and deeper, often going below 1000 m. Therefore, it is important to conduct the investigations at workings at great depths in order to formulate conclusions about the behavior of the rock mass and its interaction with the ground support. This paper presents the identification of the parameters and factors influencing the stability of ground support in the excavations and a methodology of forecasting the load strains and deformations of ground support in excavations of coal mines. The proposed forecast of the load strain and deformation of support system uses dependencies related to: the depth of the excavation in relation to the critical depth and the quality of the rock mass determined on the basis of the difference of the WL roof lithology index and the n crack intensity factor.
