Plastics have become a permanent fixture in the landscape of sanitary installation systems. Heating installations and domestic hot water made of plastics have long been an alternative to traditional materials such as steel and copper due to their numerous advantages. However, thermal linear extensions of installations made of plastics are much larger than for steel or copper. That is why manufacturers have introduced on the market multilayer composite systems. Their linear extensional coefficients α together with the increase in temperature are comparable with the elongation of copper pipes. Their mechanical strength and durability are also increased. These advantages of multilayer pipes, however, do not exempt designers and contractors from compensating for linear extensions, so important in the long-term and trouble-free operation of heating installations or domestic hot water. The lengths of the arms of compensators made of installation pipes depend to a large extent on the type of plastic material. To ensure proper operation and durability of the installation, care should be taken to compensate for the elongation of straight pipeline sections. The article shows that the data in the catalogs accepted for calculating the length of compensator arms are significantly different from the results obtained from the tests. Numerical analysis of the work of shaped compensators was carried out in order to determine the places most loaded during the operation of the heating installation. Fatigue tests were carried out under real conditions to determine acceptable stresses depending on the time of operation of the installation. The test bench was subjected to fatigue tests of compensator arms and knees, loading these elements with various values o f deflection – f. The paper presents a theoretical analysis and the results of experimental fatigue tests of the arms of the compensators and fittings-knees working in heating installations, and conclusions based on them were formulated.
