The paper presents the results of a study on mericarps and seed morphology of four taxa occurring in Poland: Heracleum sphondylium subsp. sphondylium and subsp. sibiricum, H. mantegazzianum and H. sosnowskyi. Apart from selected biometric traits we analysed pericarps and seed-coat patterns using a stereoscopic microscope (SM) and a scanning microscope (SEM). Considerable diff erences in the dorsal...
During the survey of the Mały Borek nature reserve (Augustów Forest, NE Poland) 236 species of vascular plants were recorded, including 10 plant species red-listed in Poland and 19 species protected under the Polish law. The most valuable species were sedges typical of the boreal coniferous forests: Carex vaginata, C. globularis and C. loliacea. The presence of neophytes was very limited (1,3% of...
Detailed phycological analysis aimed at the assessment of water quality in the Sołacki Park ponds in Poznań was performed during the vegetative season of 2012. Qualitative analysis revealed the presence of a total of 294 phytoplankton taxa (244 in the Mały Pond and 246 in the Duży Pond), most of which were green algae (total 32%) and diatoms (33%). However, quantitative evaluation showed that in the...
This study presents distribution and abundance of three Potamogeton species, namely Potamogeton crispus, P. nodosus and P. pectinatus along environmental gradients in the lowland river Wełna (NW Poland). The relationships between 13 environmental factors and the pattern aquatic vegetation distribution along river were investigated. Among ecological factors rarely undertaken in aquatic ecology the...
In recent years extensive attention has been given to the Rubus genus, but knowledge on the ecology of most of its species, including rhythmic development, is still insuffi cient. Such data may have practical applications, since blackberry species are economically important. The goal of the study was to analyse phenology and growth rate of vegetative and generative stems in 10 Rubus species of different...
Phytoplankton composition was analysed in the Maltański Reservoir and the inlet and outlet of the Cybina River. Samples were collected from three sampling stations in November 2007, February, May and August 2008. Considerable changes in the qualitative and quantitative composition of the phytoplankton in the infl owing and outfl owing water and in the central part of the reservoir were noted. Among...
The paper presents a list of lichen species collected in the woody reserve “Las Zwierzyniecki” in Białystok. In total 45 species, have been recorded nine of which belong to the group threatened lichens in Poland (Cieśliński et al. 2006), one is partially protected, and fi ve are to by come totally protected (Regulation of 2004). The paper contains fi ndings of lichenbiota changes after 10 years. During...
Potamogeton ×salicifolius Wolfg., the hybrid between P. lucens L. and P. perfoliatus L., is recorded from north-eastern Poland for the fi rst time. The new station is located in the Wigry Lake (the Wigry National Park), within FB19 square unit of the ATPOL cartogram grid. The distribution is updated with one new population of vegetative ramets.
This paper presents results of fi eld studies in historical former manor parks of the Drawsko Lakeland which were made during two vegetation seasons, in 2011 and 2012. The studies covered eight monumental former manor parks located in fi ve communes (Barwice commune – Stary Chwalim, Brzeźno commune – Wilczkowo, Czaplinek commune – Łazice, Siemczyno, Połczyn Zdrój commune – Kołacz, Łęgi, Słowianki,...
The ovary surface ornamentation, pilosity and hair types were observed under SEM in Polish taxa of the genus Heracleum: H. sphondylium subsp. sphondylium and subsp. sibiricum, H. pubescens (ephemerophyte from two new localities), H. mantegazzianum and H. sosnowskyi. Diff erences of taxonomic signifi cance were found in the pilosity and ornamentation of the ovary surface. Pilosity of ovaries supports...
Rubus maximus Marsson, regional bramble species occurring mainly in the Baltic costal area of the NE Germany, was reported from Świnoujście in XIX century. Its occurrence in Poland was confirmed by the new locality only recently found in the Wolin Island.
New distribution data for 183 species, one subspecies and four varieties of bryophytes in the Świętokrzyski National Park are provided. The most interesting species (rare, protected and new for the area) are Anastrophyllum hellerianum, Buxbaumia viridis, Cephalozia catenulata, Dicranum viride, Lophozia ascendens, Mannia fragrans and Tetraplodon angustatus.
The paper presents new localities of Coleanthus subtilis identifi ed in spring 2012 on the bottoms of two drained ponds in the Ruda Sułowska Complex “Milicz Ponds” Ornithological Reserve in Wielkopolska region. Both ponds showed very numerous fully developed populations of the discussed species. A potential threat of this species extinction exists and therefore its legal protection is necessary.
The vegetation cover of the Głuszec stream valley was investigated. The article presents a list of 294 recorded species of vascular plants from 65 families and, also, 47 plant associations from nine classes, from three dynamic vegetation circles: Carici elongatae-Alnetum, Fraxino-Alnetum and Querco- -Ulmetum minoris. Six types of vegetation complexes were documented. Their phytocoenotic structure...
The paper presents socio-ecological and ecological characterisation of 72 bryophyte species found in the years 2008-2012 on midforest roads passing through nine nature reserves situated in the Łódź region. Nine species occurred excl usively in this habitat. Most of the species noted (63%) were forest bryophytes occurring also inside the forest phytocoenoses studied, they constituted 95.5% of all the...
The paper presents the actual vascular flora of the “Dębowiec” nature reserve identifi ed in 2004-2009 and supplemented on the basis of literature data. The vascular flora consists of 306 vascular species, including the following mountain species: Abies alba, Acer pseudoplatanus, Anthriscus nitida, Chaerophyllum hirsutum, Huperzia selago, Polygonatum vericillatum, Ribes alpinum, Sambucus racemosa...
The “Źródła Rzeki Łyny im. prof. R. Kobendzy” nature reserve was established in 1959 and occupies the area of 120.54 ha. The paper describes fl ora and plant communities of this reserve. In total 409 vascular plant taxa from 70 families and 235 genera were inventoried, including 24 species which are under legal protection, as well as rare plants and those which are threatened in this region. Nine...
This paper presents recent localities of charophytes in the peatland complex of the northern part of Noteć Forest (Wielkopolska, Poland). In alkaline or calcareous fens and shallow waters, seven species of charophytes were found: Chara globularis, C. intermedia, C. virgata, C. vulgaris, Nitella capillaris, N. mucronata and N. syncarpa. Some of the charophytes, which were observed in this area, are...
The paper presents three new localities of Nasturtium microphyllum reported on the Ilanka River near Rzepin. In one of the localities onerow yellowcress specimens were in the flowering and fruiting stages, while in the two other localities plants were flowering, but they were not bearing fruits. Fruiting specimens were identifi ed on the basis of seed sculpture traits, while flowering plants – by...
