The distribution of arsenic in the region of Katowice is described. In the sedimentation velocity of arsenic different related from distance of distribution in rainy period and sun period. For the given direction wind the surface load of suspended dust were investigated. The concentration of arsenic in air and in fallout changed in relation to wind velocity and inversion layer height.

Concentrations of lead, cadmium, copper and zinc in soil near public main roads in the city of Poznań were determined using AAS by microsampling techniques. Mineralization of the soil samples was carried out in concentrated mineral nitric acids and hydrogen peroxide Ander normal pressure for 12 hours.
Translocation of selected heavy metals in a mycelium growing in an agar medium supplemented with heavy metals was studied. The study showed that zinc, cadmium and lead were higly accumulated in the mycelium structures and that mycelium actively inhibited metal ion translocation.

In this paper the effect of Mo6+, W6+, and Cu2+ ions on kinetics of denitrification and growth of Bacillus licheniformis is presented. Cadmium levels in cord blood (CdB) of 40 neonates living in the town of Chorzów (Upper Silesia) have been determined. The mean CdB concentration was 0.439 μg/dl (SD=0.185). Smoking before and during pregnancy raised CdB levels in newborns. Mean Cd concentration in the neonates born to smoking mothers was 0.504 versus 0.353 μg/dl in those of woman who did not smoke during pregnancy.
