Agroforest soil samples were collected at two depths (0-20 and 20-40 cm) near the Glogow Copper Plant (Poland). Adsorption parameters and isotherms were obtained by fitting the data to the Freundlich equation. The KF values of soil samples from the depth 0-20 cm were lower (from 32.1 to 45.4 dm3/kg) than those calculated for the soils nr 6 and 7 i.e. 48.7 and 51.4 dm3/kg, respectively. The multiple...
The authors investigated the mycoflora developing on the dead specimens of four species of benthos crustaceans. Ninety-five zoosporic fungus species were found to grow on the fragments of crustaceans investigated. Out of these 95 species, 27 are known as parasites or necrotrophs of fish. Four fungus species were recorded for the first in Polish waters.
Studies were carried out on the survival of six strains of bacteria: Pseudomonas fluorescens, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus faecalis, Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus cereus in fish feeds stored for 72 days in -11°C, 5°C and 20°C. On the last day of the study live cells of all bacterial strains were found in the feed stored in -11°C, of three strains in 5°C and two in 20°C...
The paper presents the results of determination of concentrations of chloride, sulfate, phosphate, ammonium, sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium ions along with total nitrogen, pH and electrolytic conductivity for precipitation collected in nonindustrialized regions near Gdansk (Poland). A station used for the collection of samples of precipitation consisted of two substations, on of which was...
The ferrous sulphate, which is a waste product in titanium white production at the Chemical Plant "Police" S.A., was subjected to microbiological oxidation with Thiobacillus ferrooxidans bacteria. The kinetic parameters of the culture growth were calculated on the basis of the Monod equation. The process was found to be best described by the model of the autocatalytic 1st order reaction...
Liver and kidneys collected in 1998 from cattle bred in the region of Varmia and Mazuria were analysed for the levels of cadmium, as well as copper and zinc. The mean concentration of cadmium younger animals (<2 years) was 0.425 mg/kg in kidneys, and 0.159 mg/kg in liver, being much lower than the levels found in older (>2 years) cattle. Notwithstanding this, cadmium levels were not high enough...
In soil - incubation experiments the action of the fungicides Impact Super and Mirage on soil microorganisms at the temperature of 10°C and 25°C has been studied. Irrespective of the applied fungicide and temperature, the reduction of fungi occurrence was accompanied by proliferation of copiotrophic bacteria, especially of fluorescent pseudomonads. The changes in the number of copiotrophic bacteria...
Investigations were carried out in July on leaves of lilac variously situated in the head on the crown. Net photosynthesis was registered from 6 hr to 20 hr. The insolated leaves in the top part of the crown showed maximum photosynthesis between 8 hr and 11 hr, afterwards the intensity of photosynthesis decreasing in spite of the high intensity of irradiation in the midday hours. The insolated leaves...
A study was performed in order to compare two techniques of air sampling, i.e. with use of SUMMA canisters and with use of sorption tubes. Analysed was air collected in Krakow and Vienna together with calibration mixtures containing 7 and 27 hydrocarbons of known concentrations. The samples were analysed with use of two different gas chromatographs equipped with different columns and with FID detectors...
The work undertakes the issue of Zn, Cu, Pb, Cd, Ni and Cr accumulation in wild grown plants in the context of their possible use for the sanitation of sludge and waste substrates. The highest contents of heavy metals were noted in Lactuca serriola, Chenopodium album, Artemisia vulgaris and Atriplex nitens. Assuming maximum crop production which is to be obtained from sludge and waste substrates at...
A method for the preparation and application of aryl chemically bonded phases designed for SPE/HPLC determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in environmental samples is described. New adsorbents have been characterised by different physicochemical techniques (porosimetry, CHN and chromatographic analysis). The sorption properties of prepared packings were investigated by the determination...
