The essential oils of the leaves and the root bark of the plant Clerodendrum infortunatum, used in Ayurvedic medicine, was investigated by means of gas chromatographic-spectroscopic (GC/FID and GC/MS) and olfactoric methods. As main compounds of these essential oils fatty acids (saturated and unsaturated) and their esters (dominating in both samples is palmitic acid), odorous monoterpenes, like limonene, a-pinene, ß-pinene, p-cymene and myrcene, and sesquiterpenes, e.g. ß-eudesmol and caryophyllene, respectively were found. Additional the identified compounds partly responsible for the reported (folk) medicinal applications are also discussed in this investigation.
Olejki eteryczne otrzymane z liści i korzeni Clerodendrum infortunium, rośliny używanej w systemie medycyny Ayurveda, badano za pomocą metody chromatograficzno-spektroskopowej (GC/FID i GC/MS) i metody zapachowej (olfaktometrycznej). Głównymi składnikami olejków eterycznych okazały się kwasy tłuszczowe (nasycone i nienasycone) i ich estry (w obu olejkach dominuje kwas palmitynowy), monoestry, głównie limonen, a-pinen, ß-pinen, p-cymen i myr- cen, a także seskwiterpeny, takie jak ß-eudesmol i kariofylen. Ponadto przedyskutowano znaczenie biologiczne niektórych związków z punktu widzenia zastosowania w systemie medycyny Ayurveda.
