Strengthening of modern political governance in Latvia reflects the most significant trends in the sphere of governance. The new meaning of the governance concept is based on opinions of governance researchers, the most essential EU normative acts and policy planning documents which influence multilevel governance in the EU, as well the development of governance in Latvia. Traditions and prejudices of the present governance in Latvia indicate that there is a need to change principles of governance in cooperation with organised civil society, social partners and local governments in order to create an environment that is favourable for the development of the national economy and thus to raise the individual and general welfare level. There are possibilities to improve governance, as well as to activate the involvement of civil society and to develop social partnership on the basis of the adopted EU decisions in the sphere of governance development.
