The article gives a general overview of the conceptualizations and research agendas which are the most popular in Polish migration studies nowadays. It is demonstrated that the concepts which underlie the research endeavor shape the narrative and determine the conclusions. In the second part of the text old and new migration patterns are compared. It is asserted that many patterns of the 19th century migrations can be identified in todays's migration flows.
