This article tells the story of Poles serving in one of the elite regiments in the British Army - the Swiss de Roll regiment. Regiment de Roll has been created on the 9th of December 1794 by baron Louis de Roll - former officer of the Swiss Guards in the service of the French. After an unsuccessful British expedition to Egypt in March 1807, de Roll regiment has suffered huge losses of around 40% of the numbers of soldiers. To compensate for the losses, the regiment began to recruit new soldiers among prisoners from the French army - among then many Poles. Number of Poles serving there was probably higher, but due to incomplete data it's difficult to come out with a precise figure. On the basis of the author's research in National Archives in London, around 45 Polish names could be established.
