This article discusses lexical influences of Polish on Bulgarian based on an analysis of selected lexicographical sources. The analysis of the lexical resources has revealed some special lexical relationships between the two languages and has led to a typological classification of borrowings. The article comments on the lexical entries of over sixty Polish borrowings into Bulgarian, taking into account their semantic, stylistic and grammatical aspects, as well as the history of borrowing. The data illustrate the main tendencies in lexical borrowing into Bulgarian from or via Polish, including the fact that such borrowings are relatively recent in Bulgarian. Although the influence of Polish on Bulgarian is not significant, on the whole it points to the existence of relationships between all, even geographically distant, Slavic languages.
